ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION VIDEO
This video walks you through the steps required to install the Pull Cord Buddy.
The kit does come with installation instructions but the video may also be of help.
The instructions are also posted on this page below the videos.

VIDEO #1
This video is of my wife Mandy using the Pull Cord Buddy.

Mandy has not been able to use a standard pull cord for many years due to a shoulder injury.
This video demonstrates how easy it is now for Mandy to start even a challenging engine.
The second part shows the Pull Cord Buddy starting a single stage snow blower.

VIDEO #2
Is the Pull Cord Buddy right for you?
Watch this video to make sure the Pull Cord Buddy will fit onto your lawn mower or single stage snow blower.
Please watch closely as I explain the pulling distance required and that you have a place available on your handle bars to mount the Pull Cord Buddy.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. OPEN THE BOX AND INSPECT THE CHECK LIST TO ENSURE ALL PARTS HAVE BEEN SHIPPED.

2. PLACE THE PULLEY [3] ONTO THE TUBE [1], WITH THE SMALLER PULLEY ON THE LEFT SIDE AS YOU STAND BEHIND THE MACHINE HANDLEBARS.

3. PLACE THE TUBE ONTO THE MOUNTING POSITION WHICH YOU HAVE CHOSEN FOR YOUR MACHINE AND EITHER HAVE SOMEONE HOLD IT IN PLACE OR USE A PIECE OF TAPE AT BOTH ENDS TO TEMPORARILY HOLD THE TUBE IN PLACE UNTIL YOU HAVE SECURED IT WITH THE CLAMPS [2].

4. UNDO BOTH CLAMPS [2] WITH A 5/16″ SOCKET DRIVER OR FLAT BLADE SCREWDRIVER UNTIL CLAMPS ARE FULLY OPEN AND ABLE TO WRAP AROUND THE TUBE [1] AND HANDLEBAR.

5. PLACE THE FIRST CLAMP [2] DIAGONALLY AROUND THE TUBE AND HANDLEBAR AND USING THE 5/16″ SOCKET DRIVER OR SCREWDRIVER, RECONNECT AND TIGHTEN THE CLAMP SO THE TUBE IS SECURE BUT CAN STILL MOVE FOR FINAL REPOSITIONING.

6. DO THE SAME WITH THE SECOND CLAMP [2]. MAKE SURE THE TUBE IS IN THE CORRECT POSITION THEN FULLY TIGHTEN THE CLAMPS.

7. TAKE THE CORD END FROM THE LARGE PULLEY AND ATTACH TO THE ORIGINAL PULL CORD HANDLE. SECURE THE CORD BY TYING A KNOT THEN USING A CORD CLAMP [6] TO PREVENT THE CORD FROM UNDOING. THE CORD SHOULD PASS THROUGH THE CLAMP, TIE ONTO THE PULL CORD THEN THE CORD END SHOULD EXIT THE CLAMP SO THE CLAMP IS CLAMPING TWO PASSES OF CORD TOGETHER.

8. TAKE UP THE CORD SLACK BY TURNING THE PULLEY THEN ENSURE THAT THE CORD WRAPS ONCE AROUND THE LARGE PULLEY BEFORE EXITING THROUGH THE SIDE HOLE. AT THIS STAGE BOTH HOLES SHOULD BE INLINE, ONE ABOVE THE OTHER AT THE TOP OF THE PULLEY DIRECTLY ABOVE THE TUBE. THIS IS NOT CRITICAL BUT HAVING ONE ROTATION OF CORD HELPS MAINTAIN THE LIFE OF THE CORD.

ADJUSTMENTS IN CORD LENGTH CAN BE DONE BY PULLING THE CORD THROUGH THE HOLES.

9. NOW THAT THE LARGE PULLEY IS SET, ALLOW AT LEAST 4 ROTATIONS OF CORD AROUND THE SMALL PULLEY.

10.TIE THE STIRRUP ONTO THE CORD HANGING DOWN FROM THE SMALL PULLEY SO THE BOTTOM OF THE STIRRUP IS APPROXIMATELY 14 TO 16 INCHES (350 TO 400 MM) FROM THE GROUND.

11.EXCESS CORD SHOULD BE LOOPED AND TAPED OR TYRAPPED ABOVE THE STIRRUP UNTIL THE INSTALLATION IS FULLY TESTED AND CAN BE TRIMMED AFTERWARD IF PREFFERRED.
IT IS TO BE EXPECTED THAT THERE MAY BE A LITTLE ‘SETTLING IN’ DURING TESTING WHICH MAY REQUIRE THE STIRRUP TO BE RAISED A LITTLE.
ONCE THE PULL CORD BUDDY HAS BEEN TRIED A FEW TIMES AND THE STIRRUP IS AT THE CORRECT HEIGHT, USE THE CORD CLAMP [6] TO SECURE THE CORD. THE CORD MUST ENTER THROUGH THE CLAMP, TIE ONTO THE STIRRUP THEN EXIT THE CLAMP AGAIN. THE CLAMP THEN CLAMPS TWO PASSES OF THE CORD TOGETHER.

12. IMPORTANT NOTE: WHEN TESTING, ENSURE THE ORIGINAL PULL CORD HANDLE DOES NOT COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE PULLEY WHEN THE STIRRUP IS PUSHED FULLY TO THE GROUND.
IF IT DOES THEN UNTIE THE CORD AT THE STIRRUP AND ADJUST THE STIRRUP DOWNWARD TO SHORTEN THE PUSH DISTANCE AND INHIBIT THE PULL CORD HANDLE FROM COMING INTO CONTACT WITH THE PULLEY.
THIS HELPS PRESERVE THE LIFE OF BOTH PARTS.
